Peter Cushing was born May 26, 1913. I originally profiled the actor here, and this link will bring up all my posts relating to Mr. Cushing.
The studio photograph of Cushing dates all the way back to 1957 and his first interpretation of The Baron in The Curse of Frankenstein. The shot is from the extraordinary Life Magazine online archives.
You're invited to check my picture blog, Monster Crazy, for a really fun look at one of Mr. Cushing's signature moves.

When I was a kid seeing Star Wars for the first time, I had no idea who any of the actors were--I assumed they were all new to movies. :)
How cool it was, discovering just a few years later, that Gran Moff Tarkin was Dr. Frankenstein!!
Cool collection of Cushing photos on the other blog.
However, the one you have marked as Masks of Death is actually Top Secret.
Dave: Thank you. I fixed that caption.
Rob: By the time Star Wars came out, I had been a Cushing fan for over 15 years. It was unusual to see him in a futuristic setting.
Great photo. I was only 9 when Star Wars came out but had a similar, Hammer-esque reaction when Grand Moff first walked across the screen-- "Mom! It's Doctor Van Helsing!"
