Rondo Awards Announced

We’re Number Two!

The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards were announced late last night and I am proud to report that FRANKENSTEINIA came in as 1st Runner-Up in the Best Horror Blog category. What’s more, the Boris Karloff Blogathon received an Honorable Mention in the Best Fan Event category!

Congratulations to all the winners — see the results here — with extra special cheers to my friend Max Cheney whose The Drunken Severed Head gets the Rondo for Best Horror Blog. Max’s blog captures the fun side of Monster Kid fandom. It perpetuates Jim Warren’s edict, upon the creation of Famous Monsters magazine, that essentially said, “Monsters are cool. I’m a kid. Make me laugh!”

Max’ blog echoes Forry Ackerman’s lighthearted approach, and the silly fun of ‘You’ll Die Laughing’ cards, ‘Monsters to Laugh With’ magazine, and Weird-Oh kits. The Drunken Severed Head spins so quickly that its brains are scrambled, and Max Cheney’s heart is the youngest one ever preserved in formaldehyde. Congratulations, my crazy friend!

Kudos also to David Colton and his crew for running the Rondo Awards year after year. It’s a huge undertaking, and the Rondos have become a prestigious and essential event. Thank you, David.

Lots of excellent winners overall, but somehow I can't shake off the feeling that if there was any justice in the world you should have been the winner for the best fan event.

Thank you, Pierre.

I say that simple thing because because... I'm "simple"! (As in "simple-minded.")

But I'm smart enough to know when someone is talented at writing, drawing, or at being a kind, thoughtful, and decent human being-- and all that describes you.

Merci merci mon ami!

Holger: I think the Fan Event winner (the Forry Ackerman Tribute) was not only deserving, but it was the one surefire, 'can't lose' nominee on the entire ballot. I am extremely pleased that the Blogathon placed in the Top 5 and we got an honorable mention.

Max: I know you are, but what am I?

Congratulations Pierre! :)

I checked the list, and I'm dying to see the restored version of Faust (and the new restored version of Metropolis too ;) ).
